What We Do - Description of Concert and Program | ||
|
| ||
OverviewEbony & Ivory plays a wide variety of music, including light classical, Gershwin, folk, ragtime, Benny Goodman, jazz, popular, classical, and original compositions. With an astonishing array of instruments (saxophone, multiple clarinets, piano, and state-of-the-art Korg Triton proX and Roland AX-1 keyboards,) these multi-instrumentalists create an ever-changing palette of sound. In addition, Fred’s engaging commentary and Andrew’s beautiful original works entertain every audience, and always leave them wanting more. The optional addition of bass and percussion will be sure to fill even the largest venue! The MusicFew musical groups encompass Ebony & Ivory’s wide variety of repertoire, and fewer still have their ease with diverse musical styles. While most musicians would be content to describe themselves as strictly "classical," "jazz" or "new age," Fred and Andrew ignore these arbitrary boundaries and simply look for the appeal and intrinsic value in each piece of music. Be sure to check out this sample program for more details. The ConcertEbony & Ivory’s live performance defies description. Their energy is infectious, and the response of audiences to their two-hour show has to be seen to be believed.
A typical concert begins with Andrew seated at the piano, Fred with his Bb clarinet at the ready. The house lights dim, the audience settles, and the duo launches into one of their standards, the high-energy Blue Grass and Green Sky. After the applause has died down, Andrew gives an informative and entertaining spoken introduction to the next piece, Andrew’s own composition, Spanish Suite. This three-movement work begins with a gentle tango and ends somewhere in Spain!
Third on the programme is Abraham Ellstein's haunting Chassidic Dance, written in the Klezmer style. And that's just the first twenty minutes! The ProofIt’s said that "the proof of the pudding is in the eating." In the same way, the proof of Ebony & Ivory is in the listening. All of the above would be just empty words without the music to back it up. To listen to their demo (available in RealAudio and MP3 formats,) please visit our Downloads page.
