Large Charleston Crowd for Ebony & Ivory Concert

Ebony & Ivory performed at the Municipal Auditorium in Charleston, WV for the Charleston Community Music Association on December 1st to a large crowd of about 1200 concertgoers. Formed in 1933, the Community Music Association has presented a veritable "Who's Who" of concert artists over the years. A review of the concert by Betty King in the Charleston Gazette lauded all aspects of the performance:

"The audience was treated royally to a full range of [music], covering everything from Gershwin and Goodman. It was impossible not to tap your toes to the stirring beat of the fresh arrangements of the classics. The young talent . . . was a joy to watch and hear."

"As a quartet [Ebony & Ivory were joined by musicians Chris Golden and Frank Briggs], the jazz-style arrangements were tight and provided lots of listening variety even within each chart."

"The strength of this talented duo can be chalked up to the variety in the program . . . The program selections struck the perfect balance of just enough clarinet, just enough solo piano, and just enough of the quartet."

Merry Christmas
A special thanks to President Joe Wollenberger for making this concert happen, to Harriet Leurant for her assistance, to the staff at the Auditorium and to the many volunteers whose hard work is much appreciated.
