Ebony & Ivory Concert at McMaster University Draws HomeschoolersThe audience at the Ebony & Ivory
concert at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario on Tuesday,
November 1st included many children, much to the delight of
Andrew and Fred. Andrew was completely
home-schooled and is developing a growing fan base of homeschoolers
coming to see him perform, and Fred also loves to see young
concertgoers. After the concert, Andrew, Andrew's mother
Carol, and Fred were interviewed by Beatrice
Ekoko for an upcoming program on
Radio Free School on the
subject of homeschooling and the unique pairing of Andrew
(completely self-taught) and Fred (double Juilliard graduate.)
Thanks to Rose Riopelle, Concert Coordinator, Elaine
Logie, Concert Assistant, and Jeremy Knowles for their
able assistance with this concert. Warm Reception for Ebony & Ivory in Peterborough
Showplace Peterborough,
Peterborough's premier concert venue, was filled with happy patrons
as Ebony & Ivory worked their concert magic on Friday,
November 4th. The concert was part of the subscription series of the
Peterborough Concert
Association. Audience members smiled, tapped their toes, bobbed
their heads, and were held riveted for over two hours as
Andrew and Fred amazed them with their playing, amused
them with their banter (oven mitts played a major role!) and
satisfied them with a program of solid musical entertainment.
Special thanks to Peterborough Concert
Association President Jim Conley; Board members Aniela
D'Avernas, Clare Trussler, and Catherine Allen;
House Manager, Claudea Usher; and Technical Director, Mike
Curtis. Ebony & Ivory On TourEbony & Ivory are currently on
tour in California. The tour starts in Bakersfield, CA, where the
Duo will perform for the music students at Rosedale Middle School
in the morning and then to a sold-out crowd at the Rabobank Theater
in the evening. After a day off to explore Bakersfield, Andrew
and Fred are off to Hollywood to visit film composer
Mychael Danna, and then
head back north to Bishop, CA, taking in both Sequoia National Forest
and Yosemite National Park along the way. After the evening concert in Bishop, it's off
to Indian Wells Valley Concert Association in Ridgecrest, CA, where
the Duo will again perform for school children in the morning and
present an evening concert in the Indian Wells Valley subscription
series. The tour ends in Baldwin City, KS, where the
Duo will be presenting a Jazz Workshop for students at Baker
University and then performing in the Artist and Lecture Series the
same evening. Back home, Ebony & Ivory will
switch gears and get ready for their Christmas Concert at Georgia
Southwestern University which will take them to Americus, GA, for the
end of November. Complete details on the tour in the December
Newsletter. Ontario CONTACT a Great SuccessOntario CONTACT, held once again at the
Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, took place from October 19-22 and
