Andrew Gilpin's "Gloria" to be performed in North CarolinaThe Cape Fear Chorale, a 50-voice community choir based at Grace United Methodist Church in Wilmington, NC will be performing Andrew Gilpin's major choral work Gloria on November 24th at 7:30 p.m. Director Jerry S. Cribbs and accompanist Gregory Bell have become enthusiastic fans of Andrew's choral music. The Gloria is a wonderful modern setting of the traditional Latin text, immediately accessible and memorable with gorgeous melodic lines and interesting rhythms. Ebony & Ivory Performs in CornwallA capacity audience at the 680-seat Aultsville Theatre at St. Lawrence College in Cornwall, ON was treated to a delightful evening of Ebony & Ivory on Saturday, October 4th. The concert marked the Ebony & Ivory debut of Fred Jacobowitz and proved to be a moving and memorable experience. A new addition to the Ebony & Ivory program was the haunting Chassidic Dance by Abraham Ellstein, an example of a body of music almost wholly lost during the Holocaust.
A master of many styles of music and equally proficient on a number of instruments, Fred brought the house down in the second half with his authentic renditions of the music of Benny Goodman. Coupled with the exquisite playing of Andrew on piano and keyboards, the Ebony & Ivory Cornwall concert was a huge success and the Duo was immediately invited back after their standing ovation at concert's end.
Thanks to Sylvia Whitaker and her committee for all of their hard work in ensuring the success of the concert and to house technician Danny for his assistance. Ebony & Ivory Master Class and Concert at McKendree CollegeThe oldest college in Illinois is McKendree College in Lebanon, IL. Its campus is a mixture of traditional and modern architecture and its Chapel a beautifully refurbished venue for concerts. The Chapel acoustics are ideal and the Ebony & Ivory concert there on October 7th was a total delight. Nancy Ypma was a delightful host and, in addition to the evening concert, organized a Master Class in the afternoon for McKendree College music students. The students were given a lecture-demonstration which touched on a multitude of musical topics from tips on phrasing, embouchure, mouthpieces and ligatures, to musical history and the business of music. The students were most appreciative and attended the evening concert to see and hear Ebony & Ivory in action. Maine Hallowe'en Tour for Ebony & Ivory
Ebony & Ivory will be enjoying the fall season in Maine this year. On Thursday, October 30th, the Duo will be performing at the Caribou Performing Arts Center in Caribou, Maine. This concert was organized by Ginny White, Director of the Center. Friday, October 31st will be spent by the Duo "trick or treating" on the way to The Chocolate Church in Bath, Maine, where an exciting evening has been planned by Marie Dufresne and Claire Adams, the newly-appointed Executive Director. Ebony & Ivory is looking forward to this performance in a venue whose name brings to mind the Duo's annual "chocolate" marketing campaigns.
