Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the name "Ebony & Ivory" come from?

Some people have assumed that one member of the Duo is black and the other white, or that the group plays black and white instruments. In fact, the name was created by agent/manager Robert Baird: "Ebony" refers to the ebony wood from which clarinets are made, and "Ivory" to the white keys of the piano, which used to be made of ivory.
