Standing Room OnlyEbony & Ivory’s recent trip to St. Thomas on January 12th was an unqualified success. Their first stop was Homedale Senior Public School, where over 100 students (including 90 from the school band!) were treated to an hour-long concert from the duo, followed by a workshop for the band presented by Peter Stoll, an experienced teacher and adjudicator.
The duo also performed a concert that evening, at Central United Church, for the St. Thomas Performing Arts concert series. Tickets were completely sold out for the show, and the capacity crowd enjoyed over two hours of wonderful music, including ragtime, jazz, and even Benny Goodman standards!
Central United Church is an excellent place in which to perform, especially for a duo such as Ebony & Ivory. Designed by Canadian architect Sidney Badgley, who was responsible for Massey Hall’s superior acoustics, Central United's sanctuary made each note crystal clear, whether you had front-row seats, or were in the last row of the balcony. Guelph ConcertWhen: Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001 - 12:00 noon
Where: Music Room 107, Mackinnon Bldg., College of Arts, University of Guelph Following their Pan Pacific II recital on Jan. 11 at the University of Toronto, Peter Stoll and Andrew Gilpin were invited to reprise their programme at the University of Guelph.
Repertoire will include newer Australian, Canadian and American compositions for clarinet, bass clarinet and piano, as well as Andrew Gilpin's classic arrangement of Tico Tico, his Sonatina for solo clarinet, and Bill Douglas' celtic-inspired Feast.
